Une horretatik aurrera, eta XV. mende osoan zehar, Europa osoan, Paristik Florentziaraino, aktibo zeuden artistek dotorezia formalarekiko eta garaiko moda bitxiarekiko zaletasun nabarmena erakutsi zuten. Emaitza sorkuntza liluragarriak izan ziren, zeinak gaur egun ere sofistikazio bisualagatik harritzen gaituzten, elementu errealisten eta apaingarrien konbinazio berezi baten ondorioz. Erdi Aro berantiarreko aristokraziaren eta, bereziki, zaldun-kodeen balioen sublimazio bisuala izan zen lan gehienen helburu nagusia.
